Project Management Homework Assignment Instructions

Part 1: Provide a work program for your any project that you choose. You should show tasks in the order in which they will be performed and two estimated times for each task. The first estimated time is how many person hours are required to complete the task. The second estimated time is how much elapsed time is required for the task to be completed.  Example:  Ask friend to review draft paper and get back comments.  Person hours: .25.  Elapsed time 2 days. If both numbers are the same, you can leave the Elapsed Time Column blank.

Provide a minimum of 15 tasks. Each task you start with a verb .Load this Excel Workbook and use it to document your work. The workbook contains two tabs. The tab named MillerExample shows a sample project. The tab named StudentWork is where you should enter your project information. When you are done listing tasks, person hours for each task, and elapsed time for each task, save the spreadsheet and attach it to Canvas.

Ideas for projects:

1. Document the steps from a project you have done in the past such as the steps your group took to complete a group project.

2. Document a planned (or already completed) home improvement project.

3. Define the steps required to plan an event such as produce and perform a major concert with orchestra and chorus.

4. Define the steps for a project you are about to do at work or at home.

5. Come up with your own idea for a project. I enjoy variety and learning something new while grading.

Part 2:

1. Select a project management system. If you already use a Project Management System such as Microsoft Project, go ahead and use your Project Management System. Otherwise pick a commercial system that you can either get for free or on a free trail. Examples: basecamp.com, monday.com, Jira, Zoho Projects, This page has suggestions for what to do to signup and get started with several Project Management Systems. Specifically: Basecamp and Monday.

2. Create a new project in your chosen Project Management System and enter your tasks. If possible, enter your person hour time estimates. Attach a few screen shots or PDFs of your project as you entered it into your Project Managment System or attach report(s) from the Project Management system showing your project.

3. Here is a link to the sample project that I entered into Monday.com. In order to enter time estimates, it was necessary to create a custom Numbers column.
