Read Supplemental Information on Phased Conversions if you did not find enough information in the textbook for the second (W7D2) discussion.

Dominican converted to a new email system. You will notice two email systems are referenced on the main campus news page. Faculty and staff currently use the Microsoft Exchange email system that is hosted in the Dominican Server Room in Lewis (dom.edu). Students use an email system hosted by Microsoft (my.dom.edu). You could say that Dominican used phased conversion strategy and converted students first. (Actually, the phasing was converting incoming students each year until all students were converted). Faculty and staff would have been converted next but this step was not deemed necessary. Faculty and staff turnover at a much slower rate than students and therefore the support costs for faculty and staff are not as significant for students. Background for Questions 1 and 2: Suppose you were in charge of Information Technology at a small liberal arts college with an enrollment of 2,000 students and a faculty and staff of 200. Currently the faculty and staff and students are using Microsoft Exchange located on one of the college's servers. The college would like to outsource student email to greatly reduce the time and expense of owning and managing the Microsoft Exchange server. Read You have decided to convert all students to Google email. To get an idea if this is easy or difficult, you can optionally read:http://www.universitybusiness.com/article/cloud-email-good-bad-and-uptime (business oriented publication - does not sound too difficult)http://www.techrepublic.com/blog/google-in-the-enterprise/one-companys-google-apps-email-migration-part-1/ (tech oriented publication - note all the items that the automated conversion utility does not convert)http://www.techrepublic.com/blog/google-in-the-enterprise/one-companys-google-apps-email-migration-part-2/Question 1: What conversion strategy will you use? Question 2: Why did you choose this strategy?
